Course Introduction

The Foundational Audiology Course is designed to provide foundational CI knowledge for current AuD students and for those new to CI clinical care. The course covers applied and theoretical principles in cochlear implants including the evolution of cochlear implant systems, signal processing, candidacy, counseling, outcomes, habilitative/rehabilitative management, programming considerations, troubleshooting, and critical clinical thinking.

This course may be implemented by AuD programs interested in providing CI coursework to their curriculum or individually by AuD students who would like to add depth in CI education to their current curriculum. 4^th year Fellows and audiologists new to CI clinical care may also choose to complete this course to provide foundational learning opportunities as they begin their clinical CI practice.

Course Format

Online Didactic Training

14 weekly modules

Pre-recorded video lecture introduces module content (60 min each)
Required reading materials supplement learning concepts
Live web class discussions review case studies and Q & A sessions (60 min)
Discussion Board posts facilitate networking and interaction with participants and instructors
Knowledge assessments, Exams, and final project (for those taking course for AuD graduate credits) assess major concepts

Weekly Live Web Classes

Thursdays 7:30-9p PM EST
Hosted on Blackboard to review and emphasize major concepts, present case discussions, and Q & A sessions
Facilitated by leading audiologists and researchers in cochlear implantation
