Course Introduction

Cochlear implants are currently underutilized (Nassiri et al, 2021) but as candidacy criteria expand and awareness of this life-changing technology increases, cochlear implant programs need to manage rapidly growing programs with a cumulative database of recipients who continue to require care. At the same time, healthcare is under ever-increasing pressure to deliver more and better care faster and at lower cost. Surgeons, audiologists, administrators, coordinators, and other members of implant teams are challenged to balance these many competing and urgent demands. This course is designed to empower implant providers and teams to analyze, evolve, and optimize their practices.

Throughout this course, CI teams will be encouraged to collect and analyze data from their own programs, identifying inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement. Each week, participants will apply evidence-based improvement strategies to enhance program performance. The course will culminate in a final report and best practice sharing session, enabling teams to present their findings and successful improvements.

This comprehensive and practical course is designed to assist cochlear implant teams (audiologists, CI surgeons, and administrators) in improving outcomes, the patient experience, and team satisfaction.

Throughout the course, participants will be able to learn from leading experts from both private clinics and large hospital settings, who will impart the tools needed to analyze CI programs and implement best practices.

  • Improve cost-effective team management
  • Analyze opportunities for efficient program growth
  • Enhance the quality of care and patient experience
  • Define protocols with a shared vision of program goals

Participant Reviews

Lisa G. Potts, PhD, CCC-A
Assistant Professor Washington University School of Medicine

This course provided valuable information and insight into all major areas of clinical care. We obtained a fresh perspective and helpful action items to improve clinic efficiency. The course was very interesting and engaging. It far surpassed my expectations. Every module was extremely beneficial and advantageous for our clinic.

Keri Colio, AuD
Rady Children’s Hospital

This course has been extremely beneficial to me and my workplace. CI recipients will benefit immensely from the knowledge obtained from each topic this course covers. The content included advanced topics, which were evidence-based, that are not typically discussed in AuD programs.

Tina Huang, MD
University of Minnesota

The Cochlear Implant Team Efficiency course was a wonderful opportunity for our CI core team to learn ways to improve our CI processes. Perhaps even more beneficial than the course itself was the time it gave our team to discuss broader topics for the CI program instead of focusing solely on patient care. We hope to continue to move that work forward and to continue having regular meetings.
