Hillary Snapp, AuD, PhD is Chief of Audiology and Professor at the University of Miami Ear Institute, where she also serves as Director of Clinical Education in Audiology, Post-Doctoral Clinical Fellowship Director in Audiology, and Co-Director of CTSI Workforce Development. A distinguished clinician-scientist, Dr. Snapp has devoted her career to advancing the understanding of hearing implants and auditory spatial perception, with particular focus on the mechanisms that drive variation among hearing-impaired individuals in complex listening tasks — including speech perception in noise and sound localization. To support this work, Dr. Snapp founded and directs the Auditory Spatial Laboratory at the University of Miami, a research environment dedicated to identifying behavioral and objective markers of hearing. The lab employs novel methodologies to evaluate spatial auditory perception, speech recognition, and the processing of acoustic signals in simulated real-world listening environments, and has generated interdepartmental research collaborations with colleagues in biomedical engineering, public health, and genetics. Dr. Snapp is also active in clinical trials for hearing devices, implants, and emerging therapeutics, contributing to the University of Miami Ear Institute's position as a leader in hearing and balance care. Her scholarly contributions extend to the classroom and the broader profession. She serves as a lead researcher, clinician, and educator to students, residents, and fellows at the University of Miami. Her scholarship has earned her invitations to lecture before national and international audiences, and she has served on various scientific and academic advisory boards to advance the application of hearing implants. Dr. Snapp was recognized with the Excellence in Leadership Award in 2023 by Women In Academic Medicine and the Excellence in Mentorship Award by the American Medical Women’s Association in 2017.
